History
The building was originally constructed as the Collège des Quatre-Nations by Cardinal Mazarin, as a school for students from new provinces attached to France under Louis XIV.

The Institut de France was established on 25 October 1795, by the French government.

In 2017, Xavier Darcos was named the Institut de France’s chancellor.

The French Academy has two tasks: first, to regulate the French language; second, to protect various arts.

The first task is the historical mission that has been in place since its inception. For this reason, the academicians must work hard to regulate and clarify the language, making it the common wealth of all French people and all those who use French.

Academicians of the French Academy of Sciences work to maintain the clarity and purity of French in the development of change. Specifically, they use a dictionary of fixed language to regulate the correct use of language, and also through their suggestions and their participation in various committee terms. Determine the job to achieve this goal.

Although their decisions are not binding on the government and the public, they are only a reference for consultation, but rely on their authority to guide the direction of French development.

Another task of the academic institute is to fund the creation of literature and art, which was not anticipated in the early days of the establishment of the academic institute. The funds come from foundation donations or personal bequests, and now the French Academy of Sciences awards about 60 literary prizes each year.

Most notably, since 1986, the Overseas French Regional Awards have been awarded each year, which indicates the continuing efforts of the Academy to promote French to the world.

The Academy also provides funding to literary groups, academics, and authors of public works to help a large number of families, widowers, widows, or people with special virtues, and a certain amount of grants.
